St John Saint Lucia Celebrates St John Day

PRESS RELEASE – 15 JUNE 2012

ST JOHN ST LUCIA CELEBRATES ST JOHN DAY

Every year the Order of St John commemorates St John Day, which is celebrated on June 24. The St John Association of Saint Lucia which incorporates St John Ambulance will this year host a number of activities in observation of St John Day.

Basic principles, such as knowing to use an adhesive bandage or applying direct pressure on a bleed, are often acquired passively through life experiences. However, to provide effective, life-saving first aid interventions requires instruction and practical training. Our activities this year will be focused on educating the public on some of these very critical issues.  We believe that it’s absolutely unacceptable that so many people die needlessly – because no one could give them first aid when they needed it.

Our programme of activities for the month of June includes the following:

Thursday 21 June               Diamond Jubilee Ecumenical Service – Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Castries

Saturday 23 June                First Aid Demonstration, Eye Screening, Blood Pressure & Sugar Testing and Recruitment Drive at Daher Building (Super J), Vieux-Fort from 11am to 2pm

Sunday 24 June                  Comfort Bay Elderly Home Visitation

Saturday 30 June                 First Aid Flash Mob
